Dentures & Partials

What are Dentures & Partials?

A denture and partial are specifically meant to enhance your smile and improve overall functionality. If you are missing many or all of your teeth, a prosthetic appliance can be made just for you to improve the way that your smile looks. The vast majority of dentures and partials can last for anywhere from five to seven years. They are made to look like your natural teeth, providing you with the confidence that you need each day.

Why would Dentures & Partials be needed?

The reason a denture or partial might be needed is because you are missing many or all of your natural teeth. For some patients, they have advanced gum disease and need to have teeth removed before being fitted with a denture. Dentures offer both aesthetic as well as restorative benefits to those who need them. They help to restore the beauty of your smile and face while improving the way you’re able to eat and chew.

Who is a candidate for Dentures & Partials?

The best way for us to determine if you might need a partial or denture is with an examination. If you have advanced gum disease that has caused many of your teeth to become loose or decayed, we may recommend removing them to place a new denture. Partials are best for patients who still have a lot of their own healthy, natural teeth and are missing enough to warrant wearing a prosthetic device. Dentures can even be attached to implants that help to keep the plate in place.

What happens during the procedure for Dentures & Partials?

The procedure begins with impressions, since these detailed molds help us to create the new denture that you’ll be wearing. You will then come back into the office after the denture has been made. You will be able to have the denture fitted and slightly adjusted to improve the way that it feels. We will instruct you on how to care and wear the new prosthetic. For most patients, it is important to remove the denture nightly to clean and store it away. Your new appliance can last for many years before replacement is needed.
