Wisdom Teeth Removal
What is Wisdom Teeth Removal?
Wisdom teeth are often the last to come in and begin to develop around the time a patient reaches adulthood. If you don’t have enough room for the wisdom teeth to come in properly, you will need to have them removed. Impacted wisdom teeth can be painful and cause dental and oral problems over time. We can remove your wisdom teeth in a safe, comfortable and convenient manner.
Why do you need Wisdom Teeth Removal?
If you leave impacted wisdom teeth in place, they may eventually begin to cause problems for you. These issues can involve infections, abscesses, pain, swelling and even damage to surrounding teeth. Removing the wisdom teeth can even prevent orthodontic issues because they will not push against other teeth, which would cause overcrowding. It’s important to have wisdom teeth removed as soon as you know they’re a problem.
What makes you a candidate for Wisdom Teeth Removal?
We will perform an examination and take detailed x-rays to determine where your wisdom teeth are located and if they need to be removed. There is no age limit when it comes to having wisdom teeth extracted. In fact, many older adults are beginning to have their wisdom teeth taken out as they develop problems. The sooner you have these third molars removed, the better off your oral health will be.
What happens during the Wisdom Teeth Removal procedure?
The wisdom tooth removal process begins with anesthetic or sedation of your choice. We then make an incision into the gums and remove the wisdom tooth underneath. We place stitches to close up the gums and then move onto the next wisdom tooth that needs to be removed. You will need to have a relative or friend bring you home if you’ve undergone sedation. You can expect some minor swelling and discomfort for the first few days following surgery, and we are here to help with any and all post-operative questions.
