Dental X-rays

What are Dental X-rays?

A dental x-ray is a radiographic image that gives us a view of the details of your oral health. Many conditions simply cannot be seen with a visual examination alone. In order to be able to see underneath your teeth and gums, we will take x-rays. X-rays are safe, reliable and you can request a copy of them at any time.

Why would Dental X-rays be needed?

There are several reasons for needing to have x-rays taken. You might be coming in for an examination and we’ll use these images to check for cavities and other dental problems. You might be undergoing oral surgery and we need to view your teeth, gums and bones on an x-ray image. X-rays are taken at many appointments as a way to provide you with the care that you need.

What makes someone a candidate for Dental X-rays?

Because we use the latest technology available, you can trust the x-rays that are being taken. The machine itself uses a minimal amount of radiation in order to provide us with a detailed image of your oral health. We can take x-rays on both adult as well as pediatric patients. The process to take x-rays is easy, quick and beneficial to the care you’re receiving.

What happens during the Dental X-ray process?

First, one of our professionally trained dental team members will place a lead apron over your body. This is meant to deflect any radiation that is in use. We then place a small device into the mouth behind the teeth and angle the x-ray machine itself at this device. The x-ray is taken and the device moved to another area to take yet another x-ray. This process will be repeated until all of the x-rays that we need have been taken. Most patients can expect x-rays at many of their dental appointments.
